NOW: Contact relevant government officials and ask what THEIR involvement in the Working Group on Review of Implementation of UNTOC 17-19 May was - did they speak on issues, if so what, how did they feed into the draft terms of reference? How do they plan to engage in informal discussions on the terms of reference between now and the next planned meeting of the Working Group in January 2012?
October 2011: Follow up on their participation in informal discussions, what has been decided so far, what needs to be decided at the meeting in January 2012 and how will they participate in these discussions? ADVOCATE for their continued support for inclusion of civil society in a review mechanism (as well as publication of reports, thematic review, and effective follow up mechanisms)!
January 2012: ENSURE that officials will attend the WG meeting, check what key points they will raise and ADVOCATE for their continued support for inclusion of civil society in a review mechanism (as well as publication of reports, thematic review, and effective follow up mechanisms)!
March 2012: CHECK with your government what preparations they are making for the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (April 2012, Vienna, Austria) and ADVOCATE for a Review Mechanism ToR which INCLUDES civil society (as well as publication of reports, thematic review, and effective follow up mechanisms)!
May 2012: Post-CCPCJ its likely that a plan of action towards the final draft of the ToR for a Review Mechanism will start to be established... find out what role your government is playing in this and make sure civil society (as well as publication of reports, thematic review, and effective follow up mechanisms) are a key part of their agenda! Find out their timeline for engagement in these discussions and continue to check in with them accordingly.
